Promise
Week III was a continuation of the ongoing effort to Build on
the Promise of a Greater Kalamazoo.
Promise Week was supported by a
broad coalition of interests who recognize the value of education and community alignment in community vitality,
economic development and quality of life.
Promise Week addressed these issues:
• What has happened since the Kalamazoo
Promise scholarship program was announced three years ago?
• What does it mean to me, regardless
of whether I am not among those who send their children
to Kalamazoo Public Schools?
• How can I get involved in the “Promise
of a Greater Kalamazoo,” an effort to build on the gift
of the Kalamazoo Promise and stimulate the vitality of the
region through education and quality-of-life initiatives.
The week of November 7 through 15 was set aside to highlight the
work to date that's been done to build on the Kalamazoo Promise and to highlight the
plans for future community building efforts, leveraging education for the purposes of
revitalizing the urban core, realizing the region's economic development potential,
providing support for young people throughout the community and improving the quality
of life in the region.
Specifically, Promise Week organizers sought to engage the community
to pursue the following four goals:
1) To provide outstanding education to all students;
2) To engage the community to ensure every student succeeds;
3) To continue to revitalize the urban core; and
4) To create a “region of choice” for
economic development.
